THE HET POELEIND TEAM

GUUS SWINNEN

FOUNDER & MANAGER HET POELEIND SPORT HORSES

Having had an interest in horses since he was young, Guus competed in show-jumping to 1m30, but worklife limited his ability to take it further. In 1991, he started working at Zangesheide on a free-lance basis. This opened his eyes to a competely new world and kindled his passion and wish to breed show-jumpers himself. Together with his father Lou, he started Het Poeleind Sport Horses in 2006. Guus has two grown sons, Seppe and Lowie. Together with his wife Nadine, he continues to grow the stud.

NADINE BRANDTNER

CO-MANAGER

Nadine grew up in South Africa. Her family bred thoroughbred racehorses for many years, but she developed her own personal passion is dressage. Trained & working as a hospital & community pharmacist until 2016, she was also active in the South African Warmblood Horse Society since 2008, later as regional coordinator of the Western Cape. In 2016 she relocated to Europe and began working for the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses. Together with her husband Guus, she also runs Het Poeleind Sport Horses.

ELS SCHILDERMANS

ASSISTANT

Els joined the team in 2018 and has become an integral part of the operation, providing dedicated daily care to the horses.

She competently handles broodmares, foals and youngsters, and rides young stock before they are sold or go into professional training.

As a result of her daily interaction with the mares and foals, our foals are halter broken almost immediately after they are born and are easy to handle from an early age.

LOU SWINNEN

CO-FOUNDER HET POELEIND SPORT HORSES

Lou grew up on a farm with horses. He rode recreationally with a passion for eventing and also competed in amateur events. He is a dedicated father, and always supported Guus' passion for riding and breeding. Together they started breeding in 2006. Today Lou is retired. He and his wife Mia still live on Hoeve 't Poeleind in Eindhout, where Het Poeleind Sport Horses was born.

SAMMY

MASCOT & ASSISTANT

Originally rescued from a township outside Cape Town/South Africa, Sammy has settled into his equestrian lifestyle in Belgium very well. He takes his farm duties and foal watch very seriously.

He also frequently accompanies Guus and Nadine to equestrian events to represent the Het Poeleind Team, both in Belgium and internationally, having travelled to France, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark and the UK. The team would not be complete without him!
